Two methods for the contactless measurement of temperature
Key role in all portable thermometers belongs to the sensor radiation, trapping the thermal energy which comes from a heated body. However, there are two methods of measuring temperature at a distance. They are fundamentally different.
The first method – colour pyrometry, and the second radiation (luminance).
In the last century apply color (with a disappearing filament) thermometers. In them the accuracy of the measurement was due to the sensitivity of the human eye. But then the market appeared radiation pyrometers. Here the intensity of radiation of objects (subjects) at any temperature are the same. It does not depend on the material of the object. Therefore, the brightness pyrometers gradually began to supplant the market for color devices.
Radiation pyrometers make it possible to determine temperature not exceeding 300 degrees. Therefore, such devices are used for measurements in electrical engineering. Negative – the dependence of the measurements obtained from the emissivity of things, so the thermal radiation material always clarify before measurement.
